Giclée or C-Type? Choosing Your Premium Art Print
The artwork draws you in. The print format determines how it looks and feels on your wall. Our premium giclée and C-Type prints offer two distinct ways to enjoy your favourite illustration, with different papers, surfaces and printing processes.
Giclée: a smooth, matt fine-art finish
Our giclée prints use pigment inks on 308gsm Hahnemühle Photorag fine-art paper. This heavyweight cotton-based paper has an off-white tone, a smooth surface with minimal texture and a super matt finish.
The paper offers excellent detail and even colour reproduction, with smooth colour gradients and muted blacks. Choose giclée if you prefer a non-shiny surface and the look and feel of a traditional fine-art print.
Handle the paper carefully to avoid fraying the edges.
C-Type: a photographic finish with a subtle sheen
Our C-Type prints use digital silver halide photographic processing on 231gsm Fuji Crystal Archive Matt photo paper. Rather than using ink, this process produces the image photographically, with smooth tonal transitions.
This bright white paper has a slight satin sheen and a lightly stippled surface, giving it a natural photographic finish with subtle colour reproduction. Although called “Matt”, it is not a fully matt surface like the giclée paper.
Choose C-Type if you prefer a bright white paper base and a photographic presentation with a little surface lustre.
Which is better?
Neither format is automatically the better choice. Giclée offers a heavier, off-white cotton-based paper with a super matt finish. C-Type offers a bright white photographic paper with a subtle satin sheen.
If you prefer a non-shiny fine-art finish, choose giclée. If you prefer a satin photographic finish, choose C-Type. When an artwork is available in both formats, you can choose the presentation that best suits your taste.
